Math apps
Smart Measure ($0.99) This app uses the smart phone camera to measure lengths and distances. It is ideal for measuring trees, buildings and people. Smart Measure can put really tall buildings and objects into perspective. Tiny Chicken (Free)
Students must measure different animals with a translucent ruler. This app is great for learning early ruler skills and different units of measurement. Measurement ($1.99)
This app teaches five different measuring concepts such as time, weight, volume, length and months through puzzles and games. Kids Measure (Free)
Kids Measure teaches kids length, time, money and weight. Kids will love using the interactive tape measure and completing over 300 exercises! Reading the Ruler ($0.99)
This app allows children to use an interactive ruler to measure. It teaches units such as inches and centimeters. The app displays the length and units in numerical and written form that will help with future word problems. |
Literacy Apps
Shiny Circus ($2.99) This app integrates measurement with a fun, read-along story. Students will learn to compare objects while learning sight words and literacy skills. Bookboard (Free)
Bookboard contains a library of over 400 childrens' books. For a monthly subscription, parents can monitor what books their child reads and how long they viewed them. There is also a reward system to motivate kids to read more. ComicBook! ($1.99)
ComicBook! is a fun app that children can use to make their own comics using photos and phrases. This is a great way to begin forming sentences, writing with dialogue and using parts of speech. Learn With Homer (Free)
This app contains over 150 reading activities and stories. It centers around the common core standards so it will really help your child with what we are doing in class. Feel Electric! (Free)

Khan Academy
KhanAcademy features free educational videos that teach many concepts, including early math. Students can also earn points for watching videos and answering questions. Funbrain.com
This website contains educational games and activties that will strengthen math skills. The link takes you to a fun, interactive measurement activity within the website. ABCYa.com
This website contains math games and activities. My favorite in the interactive ruler in which you must measure lines and enter the number. IXL.com
IXL contains math practice activities for every skill we do in class. The website keeps track of progress and provides awards for milestones. Some parts of IXL require a membership for $79 per year. PBSkids.org
PBS kids is a great website for children. There are many interactive math games and the pages are easy to navigate. Linked is a page full of measurement games. |

Starfall.com
Starfall contains many games that teach high quality literacy skills such as phonics and word recognition. Many activities are aligned to the Common Core standards so they will be similar what we are learning in class. Storylineonline.net
